2.Function/Purpose
Interviews may serve as the main technique, a supporting method, or a criterion. This method serves as the major method if the interview is employed as the only tool or the main means of data collection. On the other hand, if it serves as a tool to gather data that cannot be obtained by other ways, in such case, it serves as a complementary method. To assess the accuracy and consistency of data collected by other methods, such as test methods, questionnaires, and the like, the interview method is also employed on occasion. In situations like this, the interviewing technique serves as a yardstick or standard.
